Can anyone tell me if data tranmission gets slower if a network cable is too long? Is there a limit to how long a network cabale can be? I need to string a network cable 120 feet, and wondering if it will slow down transmission of data....not very fmiliar with networking stuff.

Thanks for your input.

A standard CAT5 network cable is only recommended to go 100m maximum and this is because as you questioned the data loses power in effect over transmission when being sent that distance. now 100m = 328ft so you should have no problem at all with the distance you need to go, if however you needed to go further than this you would need to put a 'repeater' which basically boosts the netwrok signlal or a Hub in the middle to ensure that the data does not slow down to a hault when being transferred.

I hope this has helped please let me know if you need any more help on this.
