what a muppet!!!, ok the HDD will have a Log flat headed connection called an IDE which is normally Grey, that is slot coded so it will only go in one was and you also plug in the White large power connector.

The floppy is connected it an IDE aswell it is just smaller than the HDD and has as smalled flat power connector again these can only be put in one way

i hope this helps

i am not a muppet i don't know that much about putting a computer together and you were not nice calling me that name because i don't know as much as you i am sending you a picture of what my computer looks like according to another site
http://profile.imageshack.us/user/tmm5899/ go to here and you will see my computer looks something like this
the cd burner in the top item in the computer then the cd rom then the floppy and the last thing on the bottom would be the hard drive so what cable goes to what there are two cables connected to the mother board does one cable go to the hard drive and the other cabler connect the cd burner cd rom and the floppy all with the same cable

Hi
Mortal was not calling you a muppet, he was refering to the person who came to your house and took all the cables out then left it like that ok, mortal is not a nasty person belive me, nicest guy you can meet on here.
right to problem in hand ok.

ok I can see what you are saying
top slot CD RW
next slot down CD-ROM
then floppy drive
inside the hard drive.

ok you will have a grey ribbon cable with 3 connectors on it 2 are close together and one at the other end, ok. the connector will only fit one way into the cd-rom and cd-rw you will also notice a red line down the cable this is pin 1. so take the cable and the two connectors close together so the end connector will fit into the cd rw
the second connector will fit the cd-rom
now you are left with the last connector, this will fit onto the motherboard only one way you will see the socket you are looking for, IDE 1 OR 2. place it in that

the floppy drive has a smaller ribbon cableand has its on connector on the motherboard it will only fit that one.

Harddrive cable again if its a ribbon cable you will plug it in like the others and place it in the last remaing socket on the mother board.

Hi tmm5899

3 cables ---

CD RW
CD-ROM = 1 cable > 1st IDE cable connector farthest from the other two install to IDE 2 on the Motherboard 2nd IDE cable connector opposite end of the cable install to CD-ROM "jumper set to Master" 3rd IDE cable connector the last one left install to CD-RW "jumper set to slave".

Floppy drive = 1 floppy drive cable "smallest cable" install to floppy drive on the Motherboard opposite end install to the floppy drive.

Internal hard drive = 1 IDE cable install to IDE 1 on the Motherboard and opposite end connection to the Hard Drive "jumpers set to master".

I hope i have explained clearly for you.
