Couple of Laptop Problems

Hi there,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if it is please move it to the right one please!

Problem with my laptop it’s an advent 7062, I think it’s about 2.5 years old.

One of the problems I am having is that at very random moments, when using the laptop touch pad, the pointer very erratically moves all around the screen. It’s almost the same behaviour as if you have a wired mouse and the cable is a bit broken and it just clicks on anything etc until you unplug it. This only lasts for a few secondns, while I carefully try to not close anything etc.

Any ideas why it does this? Maybe the touchpad needs a good clean or is there more to it?

cheers

download the latest 'Synaptics' driver for your touchpag but i think it has probably seen the end of its day mine did that and i ended up having to replace it.

Replacement costs are £70 upwards just get a few quotes first and dont go immediatly to the manufacturor.

Thanks, will give it a try. To be honest I have a few other niggly problems as well with it:

1) The power cable is either a bit worn out or the actual power cable connection on the laptop is a bit worn because at times it won't power up until i fiddle with the cable connection.

2) A few months ago the laptop screen kept going black. I had this problem before where it just stayed black, luckily it was under warranty and it got repaired (replaced the inverter). It seems to be starting to go.

3) My PCMCIA wireless card I believe may be causing my system to hang. It is a refurbished card and I have heard it can be a bit problematic...

So to be honest, I rather just buy a new laptop!

However, if you have any advice on 1 or 2 that would be great as well.

cheers,

i can only really help with number 1 and the best you can do if you are confident enough is to take the laptop apart and re-seat the power connection it could have a dry joint or just need re-soldering.
