Hi All
New & looking for some help with my HP pavillion problems
Not sure if this is model number from front off tower a405 its microsoft windows xp home edition

2 & a half years old and only had one part replaced so far which was the power supply unit 29/09/06 oh yes and i replaced the battery just before that.

Ok here goes try my best to describe the antics i fear it may be the hard drive

All off a sudden the pc will start making clicking on/off sounds and then the screen will just freeze when i say freeze i mean mouse pointer is just sat ther stuck on the screen and there is no way off getting out too shut down so i have to switch off either by wall or blue button on tower.

When switched back on i have the black screen with white txt asking me to choose an option start in safe mode etc
No matter which i choose it wont perform any
I end up having to press F10 key for system restore ( only option ) taking it back to factory shipped settings

I have also done the system recovery using the recovery discs i made when first purchased PC . both off these worked and took me to registration etc then reinstall my ISP broadband etc as obv every thing is wiped out

However no matter what i do the pc works like a dream for a few days even a few wks & then it happens again i hear the dreaded cutting in & out sound & noticed the little yellow tiny light bellow the big blue button is flashing in tune to the cutting out noise then Freeze again and start process all over again off system recovery and hey presto it works but is becoming a chore

Also noticed first time i done it when it was all set back up clock was an hour out
This time i have done it clock is miles out like a whole day !!

Many thanks in advance to any body who can help
Daughters pc and really cannot afford another one at mo and think it might be to risky to start replacing parts lest i know for sure what it could be.

Oh i done a scan off all the drives folders etc yesterday with avg free edition and the scan started and only after 1 min ther was a note that a file couldnt be checked because it couldnt be opened ?

Mags

This could be a priblem with the hard drive, does it sound like something is spinning down i inside your computer when it is happening then spinning back up again?

i am fairly sure it is your HDD please make sure you have backed up all of your work as if they do go it is virtually impossible to recover work
